| Description: | This program makes grants between $500 and $15,000 to support writing, research, editing, design, indexing, photography, illustration, printing, and binding of nonfiction books. Projects should relate to natural and historic resources; art, architecture, and design; cultural history; civil liberties; and other public issues. There is some emphasis on New York City and State. Proposals to which a publisher is already committed are usually preferred. Annual deadlines are 3/1 and 9/1.
