TEACHING (M.A.T.)

The Master of Arts in Teaching is a collaborative program with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore designed for those seeking secondary certification and who have an earned baccalaureate degree in and appropriate content coursework for certification in agriculture, art, biology, business education, chemistry, earth science, history, mathematics, music, physics, family consumer science, social studies, English, French, Spanish or technology education. This rigorous, 16-month accelerated program is accredited by NCATE and meets MSDE licensure requirements. Small class size and strong connections the Department of Education Specialties has with public school systems offer students a cost effective program with an emphasis on field-based experiences. Courses are scheduled in either late afternoon or early evening and are taught by faculty with strong subject area expertise. Students benefit from ongoing advising in an environment of supportive and accessible faculty. M.A.T. alumni include state Teacher of the Year recipients.
