Clifton Paul Griffin, Ph.D., Dean of Graduate Studies and Research
Dr. Clifton
P. Griffin is the inaugural holder of the position of Dean of Graduate
Studies and Research at Salisbury University. Dean Griffin provides
administrative oversight of SU’s 14 Master’s degrees and five post-secondary
certificate programs. He also develops research policy, acts as leading
advocate for faculty and student research and scholarly activity,
cultivates relationships with external funding sources and explores
funding resources for graduate students.
Prior to joining Salisbury University, Dean Griffin served as
Director of Research and Graduate Studies for Texas A&M University
at Qatar, where he developed and led all aspects of office operations
for the university’s research services and graduate administration.
Additionally, he managed all aspects of research administration,
including proposal development, contract negotiation, post-award
and project administration and sponsor reporting over $50M in research
projects.
Dean Griffin has over 12 years of experience in graduate education
and research administration. Most of his tenure was spent at Texas
A&M, which is ranked among the nation’s top 20 research universities.
There he served in various roles, including Assistant Dean of Graduate
Studies and Ombudsperson. In this role, Dean Griffin helped to establish
policy and procedures, guaranteeing a superlative graduate education
experience to over 8,700 graduate students. He also served as the
financial manager for the Office of Graduate Studies, with over
$25M in activities annually.
Dean Griffin earned his Ph.D. from Texas A&M University, and
his M.S. and B.S. degrees from Delta State University in Mississippi.
He is the recipient of the International Excellence Award, Group
Leader (2005), the International Excellence Award (2004) and the
Tradition of Excellence Award, Division of Academic Affairs, Texas
A&M University (2002).
