program, the Perdue School M.B.A. transforms its
graduates into outstanding individuals prepared

Suitable for all undergraduate majors, the
program can be completed in as little as one
calendar year for full-time students and two
calendar years for part-time students (after

Applied Health Physiology (M.S.)
The Master of Science in applied health
physiology is a professional degree program
designed to prepare leaders in the fields of
health care/wellness or fitness. The program
offers three possible areas of focus:
cardiovascular/ pulmonary rehabilitation,
strength and conditioning, and fitness/wellness.
The program provides academic preparation for
students seeking certification by the American
College of Sports Medicine as exercise
specialists or by the National Strength and
Conditioning Association as certified strength
and conditioning specialists (CSCS).
The academic coursework prepares students for
careers in health care settings such as
hospitals, youth and geriatric centers, state
and local health departments, corporate wellness
programs, personal trainers, and strength and
conditioning coaches for sports teams. The

multiple opportunities for hands-on experience
in addition to traditional classroom

Conflict Analysis and Dispute Resolution
(M.A.)
The Master of Arts in conflict analysis and
dispute resolution is a new program that
addresses the growing need for highly skilled
conflict resolution practitioners to work within
judicial, governmental, social service and
private sector systems. This is a quickly
growing field, with governments and corporations
increasingly using mediation and other conflict
resolution processes in their day-to-day
operations. Students with any undergraduate
major can pursue the degree.
Courses for this program are taught in a
cohort, over two years and are offered primarily
in the evenings. The program is closely
integrated with the Center for Conflict
Resolution, which functions as a ‘teaching
hospital,’ offering extensive opportunities for
students to get involved in both research and
practice. The academic and clinical faculty work
closely with students, ensuring that each
student gains valuable handson experience in the
field, specifically tailored to their individual
career goals.
The curriculum mixes strong practice skills
with theory knowledge, providing a wellrounded
education that allows students to apply theory
in the real world. The curriculum also includes
a strong emphasis on research skills for those
students planning to continue their
post-graduate study.

Education (M.Ed.)
Curriculum and Instruction, Reading
Specialist & Educational Leadership The programs
leading to the M.Ed. require 33 credit hours of
course-work and are offered in the evening and
during the summer. Field-based experience is
emphasized. Faculty with solid expertise in
their subject areas are available for ongoing
advising in a supportive environment committed
to meeting student needs. The Department of
Education Specialties has strong relationships
with public schools in Maryland and surrounding
states and there is opportunity for
international study. These cost-effective programs meet Maryland certification
requirements and are NCATE accredited. Alumni
include state Teacher of the Year recipients.
Using a “Learn Where You Work” grant, teachers
who teach in one of Maryland’s Eastern Shore
counties but live in a bordering state pay
in-state tuition.
There are three programs that lead to the
M.Ed.: Curriculum and Instruction, Reading
Specialist and Educational Leadership. The
program in Curriculum and Instruction is
designed for candidates seeking advanced
preparation in the education professions.
Students in the Curriculum and Instruction
Program select the track within the program that
fits interests and career goals. Those tracks
are the Early Childhood, the Elementary
Education, the Middle/Secondary, the Post
Secondary, and the Teaching with Learning and
Technology tracks.
The Reading Specialist and the Educational
Leadership programs are designed for practicing
or certified teachers. Reading specialists are
instructional leaders and advocates for literacy
in the schools. This program is MSDE approved
and teachers who complete this program and meet
the MSDE teaching requirement are eligible for
the MSDE Reading Specialist Certificate. The
Educational Leadership Program is designed to
prepare educational leaders and school
administrators. This program is also MSDE
approved and leads to an Administrator I
Certificate.

English (M.A.)
The English Department offers a M.A. in
English in three concentrations: literature
(thesis and non-thesis); composition, language
and rhetoric; and Teaching English to Speakers
of Other Languages/TESOL (additional coursework
is required and available for those seeking
Maryland Certification in TESOL).
Applicants for the literature or composition
options should have a B.A. in English or 30
English credit hours. For the TESOL option,
other undergraduate backgrounds are considered.
The program is 33 hours consisting of classes
typically offered in the late afternoon or
evening and can be completed in two years.
Teaching assistantships are available each
year on a competitive basis. The department also
chooses a graduate assistant/ESL tutor (or two)
to work with the University’s non-native
speakers. Both assistantships include a stipend
and tuition waiver.
The M.A. in English program serves:
- Area teachers seeking to enhance their
skills and expertise;
- Students who wish to teach at community
colleges or small colleges where a Ph.D. is
not required, and;
- Students who wish to continue their
studies in a Ph. D. program.

Geographic Information Systems and Public
Administration (M.S.)
The Master of Science in Geographic
Information Systems (GIS) and Public
Administration Program at Salisbury University
is unique among all such programs. It provides a
practical, hands-on educational experience that
prepares students for a career in the
administration of GIS, particularly in a public
context. The M.S. in GIS and public
administration is a direct response to the
increasing value in using GIS technology to
allocate scarce resources in support of informed
public policy decisions. The degree is designed
to enhance the GIS proficiency of professionals
working in government, business and non-profit
organizations. With such proficiency these
professionals are well equipped to integrate and
apply this new technology in their respective
fields.
With 80 percent of the coursework offered
online, the program designed to meet the needs
of working professionals who did not acquire a
GIS background as part of their primary training
while they continue to hold their position in
their chosen field.

The History Department’s M.A. program equips
students with the critical thinking and research
skills necessary for undertaking serious
reflection on the human condition, thereby
preparing them to succeed in challenging
academic and professional environments. Small
classes offer individualized attention and
faculty support. Seminar courses in the evenings
provide teachers and other nontraditional
students with an excellent opportunity for
continuing education and career development.
The M.A. program in history enjoys a
diversity of faculty expertise, which enables it
to offer areas of concentration in U.S.,
European and world history, and it is especially
strong in the study of the Delmarva region,
drawing upon the rich resources of the Lower
Shore community and Salisbury University’s
Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva
History and Culture. With its emphasis on
research, reading and writing, the M.A. program
in history not only activates in its students
the intellectual dispositions crucial for
professional advancement, but it also promises
to foster in them a lifelong love of learning

Mathematics Education (M.S.M.E.)
The Master of Science in Mathematics
Education (M.S.M.E.) is designed to improve
mathematics instruction in middle and high
schools. The target audience includes
state-certified teachers and students working
toward certification in another program approved
by the Maryland or Delaware State Department of
Education. The M.S.M.E. offers a track designed
for middle school mathematics teachers and
another track designed for high school
mathematics teachers. Both tracks immerse
teachers in the mathematical concepts and
strategies necessary to help their students
acquire a sound understanding of mathematics.
The elective course work in the M.S.M.E. program
allows teachers to focus on mathematical content
in a teaching context. Most of the courses
designed for this program are based on handson
explorations and transition from concrete to
abstract mathematics through active learning.
Classes in this 33-credit program meet in the
late afternoon, evening and in the summer to
meet the scheduling needs of teachers throughout
the year.

Nursing (M.S.)
In an effort to meet the exceptional demands
on health care practitioners, Salisbury
University’s Department of Nursing provides a
rigorous, science-based preparation for advanced
nursing practice. Students who have an
undergraduate nursing degree and who are
licensed as a registered nurse can earn the M.S.
in nursing as a family nurse practitioner or
health care leader from a program that fosters
excellence.
Taught by distinguished fulltime faculty who
practice what they teach, classes are
conveniently scheduled for evenings and offer
close facultystudent working relationships.
Faculty advisors assist each student to design a
personalized progression plan and to identify
and encourage learning experiences that are
responsive to student interests and learning
goals.
Full-time students can earn their degree in
two years; parttime study can be completed in as
little as three years. Graduates of the Family
Nurse Practitioner and Health Care Leadership
programs are in demand and valued for their
expertise and contributions. The graduate

Social Work (M.S.W.)
Salisbury University offers one the most
affordable Master of Social Work programs in
Maryland. For those who wish to work in a
variety of settings, including social service
agencies, schools, hospitals, correctional
facilities, community mental health centers and
more, the M.S.W. accepts students with a wide
range of undergraduate backgrounds. In Maryland,
social workers are one of only three mental
health professions that are licensed for
practice. Full-time, advanced-standing students
(who have an undergraduate degree in social
work) may complete the M.S.W. in as little as
two semesters. Flexible scheduling accommodates
working adults and graduate students can take as
few as two courses per semester. A strong
network of field placement professionals ensures
that each student’s unique goals are met. I
n addition to taking classes on the SU
campus, students may enroll in M.S.W. offerings
at Cecil Community College in Elkton, the
Eastern Shore Higher Education Center at
Chesapeake College and the University System of

The Master of Arts in Teaching is a
collaborative program with the University of
Maryland Eastern Shore designed for those
seeking secondary certification and who have an
earned baccalaureate degree in and appropriate
content coursework for certification in
agriculture, art, biology, business education,
chemistry, history, mathematics, music, physical
education, social studies, English, French,
Spanish or technology education. This rigorous,
16-month accelerated program is accredited by
NCATE and meets MSDE licensure requirements.
Small class size and strong connections the
Department of Education Specialties has with
public school systems offer students a
costeffective program with an emphasis on
field-based experiences. Courses are scheduled
in either late afternoon or early evening and
are taught by faculty with strong subject area
