Information for Current Students

Internships

Internships provide students with the opportunity to gain workplace experience prior to graduation and are strongly encouraged. This experience enables students to apply the knowledge gained during coursework in a professional setting and engage in real world problem-solving. Internship experiences are often compensated and may lead to subsequent employment. For more information, follow the internship link to obtain helpful suggestions.

Jobs

During senior year, students should actively begin to apply for jobs in their desired field or fields. The University's Career Services offers support to develop resumes, hosts job fairs and aggregates job and internship postings to facilitate student preparedness. For more information specific to geography and earth science majors, follow the jobs link.

Graduate School

Students with strong undergraduate credentials and the desire to extend their disciplinary training are encouraged to apply to graduate schools in their area of interest. Graduate degrees offer a competitive advantage in the marketplace and research indicates that career earnings improve with graduate training. For qualified students, graduate school is often free through paid teaching and/or research assistantships. Follow the graduate school link for more information.

Monthly Meeting

Each month, Dr. Skeeter and Dr. Chen, the Chair and Associate Chair of the Department will host a meeting to talk with students. Please follow the meeting link to obtain details.
