Associate Dean
Dr. Keith H. Brower
Dr.
Brower is Associate Dean of the Fulton School of Liberal Arts
and Professor of Modern Languages and Intercultural Studies. An
SU graduate (B.A. in English and Spanish, 1979), he earned his
Ph.D. in Spanish, with a minor in Portuguese, from Penn State
University (1985), where he specialized in Spanish American and
Brazilian fiction. Since coming to SU as a faculty member
in 1997, following eleven years at Dickinson College, including
four as chair of Dickinson’s Department of Spanish and
Portuguese, he has focused his teaching and research on all
things related to Spain. He has focused his developmental work
at SU on international education and transformational,
comprehensive curriculum reform, particularly that found in the
Fulton School's new (since 2007) four-credit course model.
Besides curriculum reform and international education
initiatives, Dr. Brower's recent Associate Dean work has also
focused on assessment, grants and faculty development. He
also serves as Coordinator
of the Interdisciplinary Studies Major Program and as Director
of the Salisbury Abroad: Spain summer/semester/year programs. Dr.
Brower served as chair of SU's Department of Modern Languages
and Intercultural Studies 1999-2007 and is the founding director
of the SU Summer Program in Málaga, Spain. He has two books in
print—Contemporary Latin American Fiction: An Annotated
Bibliography (Salem Press, 1989) and Jorge Amado: New Critical
Essays (Routledge, 2001), the latter co-edited with colleagues
at Dickinson and Vanderbilt University—and a third book—Catholicism
in Spain and Latin America: History, Culture, Tradition and
Change—in progress.
