APPLICATION & PROCEDURES

Academic Year 2009-2010

The Fulton School of Liberal Arts supports the professional development of its faculty, including research and curriculum development activities that enhance teaching capabilities and contribute to the advancement of knowledge.  The grants are supported through the Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton Endowment and through the indirect costs generated by faculty grant-writing activity.  Applications are screened by the Fulton Faculty Grants Committee.

Application Deadlines

Grants are awarded three times annually; reassigned time is awarded twice annually.  Applications must be received in the Dean's Office no later than Noon on the following dates:   

 Fall 2009 Grant, Spring 2010 Release  Submit by September 25, 2009
Spring 2010 GrantFall 2010 Release  Submit by January 15, 2010
 Summer 2010 Grant  Submit by April 16, 2010

Applications should be submitted to the Office of the Dean of Fulton School by Noon. Late applications will not be accepted..

Forward all applications to Chair, Fulton Faculty Grants Committee, C/O Dean's Office,  Fulton Hall 257.

It is the responsibility of the applicant to make certain that the completed proposal is submitted on time to the Dean's Office by the published deadline.  Late applications will not be considered.  Applications for completed projects will not be accepted.  Use of campus mail is not recommended, particularly if due date is near. All decisions of the committee are final.

Funding is available for extraordinary projects outside the framework of the dates listed for up to two years in advance of the current granting period.  Funding for these projects will be given the lowest priority and any funds received will go into escrow until the date needed.  Until these funds are used or declined, no further grants to the individual will be available from this committee.  Top

Eligibility

All full-time faculty members of the Fulton School of Liberal Arts, including non-tenure track faculty.  No applications will be considered from pervious recipients who have not submitted their reports.

 

Curriculum Development

Individuals or groups may apply for a semester stipend, or released time, in order to increase the ability to use new scholarship or to become proficient in new areas of specialization or creativity, or to revise or create a new curriculum program.

Research

Individuals or groups may apply for a monetary grant or reassigned time to expand disciplinary expertise by: engaging in a research project; writing a book, book chapter, or article; participating in a special art exhibit, performance, or other creative work; or by developing a grant proposal for submission to a government agency or private foundation.  Priority in funding will be given to projects likely to lead to one or more publications, to a major grant proposal, or to a conference presentation of significant scholarly merit.  Grants may cover reimbursable research expenses, including travel for purposes of research, presentation, exhibition or performance.

Application Procedures

By using the form-fill above, submit a project proposal, for one project only, of no more than four pages, not counting #7.  The format should be as follows:

Reassigned Time

If you are applying for reassigned time, you must include the written approval of your department chair with your application.  The chair must submit a separate letter for each request for released time.  Recipients of reassigned time are not be eligible for additional grant funding during the semester of the reassignment.

 

 

Award Limits

There is a $2,000 cap on awards to any faculty member or group in a given academic year.  However, you may apply for up to three grants each year--only one per granting period-provided that the combined total of such grants does not exceed the $2,000 cap.

Expense Account Processing and Progress Reports

 

Fulton Faculty Grants will be processed on one Maryland State Expense Account Form.

Please submit a progress report together with original receipts and a MD State Expense Account Form listing all other sources for the same project/travel.  All must be submitted to the Dean's Office within 30 business days of returning from travel, or, 30 business days from incurring the last expense of a project within this granting period.  It is not necessary to have completed the entire project in order to submit a progress report.  No reimbursement for travel will be approved until the report has been filed. No new applications will be considered from recipients who have not submitted progress reports.
