Broaden Your Cultural Horizons
By Becoming a Cultural Laureate!

The
Cultural Laureate Program (CLP) is a pilot program
designed to encourage student attendance at cultural events on
campus through recognition and reward. A Salisbury University
education is more than classroom learning, shaping a future
career and making new friends. Seize the cultural opportunities
offered at SU to expand your appreciation of various art forms
and your awareness of artistic expressions across cultures.
What Is The CLP?
SU students with fewer than 90 credits are invited to
participate in the Cultural Laureate Program by attending at
least five cultural events per semester among a selected list of
events on SU’s campus. CLP-approved events are listed in this
brochure.
How Is My Attendance At These Events Recorded?
When you attend a CLPapproved event, you must swipe your
GullCard on the portable card reader stationed outside the door
of the event site. Your attendance is automatically recorded.
You are expected to stay for and enjoy the entire event. Attend
at least five selected events during the semester and you will
become a Cultural Laureate.
What Are The Rewards Of Becoming A Cultural Laureate?
In additional to having experienced at least five outstanding
cultural events per semester, taking full advantage of your SU
education and getting a healthy break from your studies,
multiple-year Cultural Laureates will earn an honors cord to be
worn at commencement. Cultural Laureates will also receive a
certificate of appreciation and a letter of congratulations. We
are proud of your effort to become part of a great learning
community, and we want to tell you so.
Why Is This A “Pilot Program?”
Programs similar to our CLP are offered at a limited number
of private and public universities around the country. At a few
select private schools, participation is mandatory in
recognition of the important role that the arts and other
extracurricular activities play in contributing to a complete
education. SU is A Maryland University of National Distinction
that embraces this philosophy of the value of cultural
appreciation. Following an evaluation of our Cultural Laureate
Program, we hope to modify this program and make it available it
to all students at Salisbury University.
