A dance artist-educator and honored recipient of the Distinguished Faculty Award at Salisbury University, Professor Hutchinson directs the Dance Program, established the Dance Minor, and serves as Artistic Director of the SU Dance Company. In addition to teaching dance studio and lecture courses in web-enhanced, hybrid, and online modalities, she is a campus leader in online learning, general education, and the interdisciplinary arts. Her presentations on these subjects include the EDUCAUSE Southeastern Regional Conference and the Society for Applied Learning Technology®.

Hutchinson received her Ed.D. in dance education from Temple University as a Russell Conwell Fellow, an M.A. in dance from the University of Arizona, and a B.F.A. magna cum laude in modern dance performance from the University of Utah. She holds certificates in Laban Movement Analysis, Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training, and the Foundations of Distance Education. Prior to joining the Salisbury University faculty in 1990, she held teaching and administrative positions at Eastern Illinois University.

A musical foundation in instrumental and vocal studies led to Hutchinson's training in dance that includes scholarship studies with the Repertory Dance Theatre of Utah, the Martha Graham Company, and Guru Pandit Durgalal in India. Her professional credits include principal dancer with the Arizona Opera; more than 50 choreographed works for concert dance, theatre, and opera that include the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company in Utah and Funhouse Movement Theatre in Arizona; and commissions for and collaborations with solo musicians and choral and percussion ensembles.

Hutchinson is the recipient of an Indo-American Fellowship to India and an Illinois Arts Council Choreography Fellowship; the Kennedy Center Performance Excellence Award, the National Dance Association Literary Award, and the University of Arizona Creative Achievement Award. She has received numerous Maryland State Arts Council, Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council, SU Foundation, and Faculty Mentor grants. Her scholarly publication includes articles and reviews in The Journal of Interactive Instruction Development, Impulse: The International Journal of Dance Science, Medicine, and Education, and Dancing in the Millennium Conference Proceedings. She has reviewed for The Dance Research Journal.

Her service record includes the American College Dance Festival Association board of directors and the Maryland State Arts Council dance panel; and, on campus, the Ad Hoc Online Learning Committee (co-chair), Faculty Senate, Task Force on General Education, University Curriculum Committee, Fulton School Curriculum Committee (chair), Honors Program Committee, and the Phi Kappa Phi honor society (past president).
