Jon-Philip “Jay” Imbrenda, Ph.D.

Short Biography:

Jon-Philip “Jay” Imbrenda’s research involves examining and developing classroom practices that promote students’ development as readers and writers.  He is particularly interested in instructional approaches that engage students in the here and now by leveraging their out-of-school literacy practices into strategies for formal academic success.  He is the co-author of Developing Writers of Argument: Tools and Rules that Sharpen Student Reasoning as well as numerous chapters and journal articles.  Most recently, his research has appeared or is forthcoming in Written Communication and Research in the Teaching of English.  He enjoys working closely with current or prospective teachers to improve the material conditions of their classrooms.  He is also an enthusiastic player of games and firmly suspects that well-designed games can teach us much about the principles that govern effective learning.
