Business and Professional Writing Minor

Developed writing skills matter beyond your classroom essays. In the professional world, being able to communicate ideas clearly and concisely is an important tool. The business and professional writing minor at Salisbury University is designed to give you the abilities to present yourself professionally through writing, giving you an edge in any type of job field.

Why Choose Business and Professional Writing at SU?

Students in the business and professional writing minor must complete four courses in the English Department beyond the courses used to fulfill General Education requirements (ENGL 103 with a C or better and the General Education literature course). At least three of the English courses beyond ENGL 103 used for the minor must be taken at SU. A grade of C or better is required in courses for the minor.

In addition, students must complete the following courses:

  • ENGL 305 Technical Writing and Editing
  • ENGL 467 History and Theory of Rhetoric

or

  • ENGL 464 Rhetorical Criticism 

Select two courses from the following:

  • ENGL 302 Internship
  • ENGL 306 Writing for the Disciplines
  • ENGL 307 Writing for Digital Environments
  • ENGL 308 Composition III
  • ENGL 455 Nonfiction Workshop
  • ENGL 464 Rhetorical Criticism
  • ENGL 467 History and Theory of Rhetoric
  • ENGL 495 Topics in Writing and Rhetoric

SU also offers an English major with multiple tracks focusing on writing. Students may not use courses to satisfy requirements in both the minor and major programs of study in English.
