Symposium '05

This year's symposium will focus on Environment Across The Curriculum.  The conference is on April 29th, 2005 at Wor-Wic Community College from 3:30 to 8:00 p.m.  More information will be available in January 2005.

Mission of the Institute

The mission of the Eastern Shore Institute for the Advancement of Thinking is to advance education for thinking by helping educators, students, parents and community members develop an understanding of the fundamental role of thinking in the overall teaching and learning process. The Institute also seeks to help its constituents teach children and youth how to use thinking processes to achieve success in school and in life. Its efforts are focused in the following five areas:

Coordinating and Enhancing Resources
The Institute encourages its members and constituents to share and to integrate what each has to offer so that all who interface with the Institute are enriched and additional resources flow to the area.

Fostering Staff Development
The Institute is committed to a program of staff development, including workshops, conferences, seminars and other opportunities, that will provide constituents with practical, instructional and assess-ment strategies, and that will help them create environments conducive to thinking.

Providing Technical Assistance
The Institute is committed to identifying personnel within and beyond the region who can provide direct assistance to those designing projects and proposals that develop, expand and implement knowledge and use of thinking.

Strengthening Communication
The Institute's communication network employs print, other media, and face-to-face dialogue to help constituents interact with one another, share productive critical experiences, describe strategies for teaching and assessing thinking, keep current on advances in the field, and reflect on all aspects of thinking.
