Dr. Ross Leasure to Lead Study Abroad Trip
to
Iceland in Spring 2010
 |
| The majestic
Dyrholaey promontory is home to millions of
Puffins and other marine birds. |
Dr. Ross Leasure of
the English Department has begun preliminary
preparations for a student trip to Iceland as part of
the enhancement module for his course, Old Norse
Literature in Translation [ENGL 349], scheduled to be
offered over the break in Spring of 2010. He intends to
take students to visit important sites referenced in the
Icelandic sagas, most notably Thingvellir, the
birthplace of Icelandic democracy more than a millennium
ago, and Skalholt, the oldest bishopric on the island.
Also of significance is the archaeological excavation at
Mosfell believed to be the burial place of the hero of
Iceland's earliest saga, Egil Skallagrimsson.

There will
also of course be excursions to the many natural wonders
of this 'land of fire and ice,' from glaciers to fjords,
and more. As always, the course counts for General
Education credit.
