Graduate Program Options
The Master of Arts Program in English consists of three primary options
in which students complete 33 semester hours:
- Literature (Thesis or Non-Thesis)
- Composition, Language and Rhetoric
- TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).
We also offer three additional TESOL
options:
-
M.A. in English combined with meeting requirements for Maryland Certification in TESOL.
-
The Post Baccalaureate
Certificate in TESOL is a non-degree, 15 semester hour
program. While the courses taken for the Post
Baccalaureate Certificate cover areas required for K-12
certification in the State of Maryland, this certificate by
itself does not lead to teacher certification nor does this
lead toward an M.A. in English degree.
-
Current teachers on the
Eastern Shore may also be interested in the
TARGET (Training and Retraining Grades K-12 Eastern
Shore Teachers) options, which are available for a limited
time. TARGET consists of two 5 course cohorts, ACCESS, which
leads to completion of the Post Baccalaureate Certificate in
TESOL, and ENCORE, a set courses designed for teachers
seeking immediately useful practical tools for working with
students with limited English proficiency. For information
about this competitive program, contact
TARGET directly.
