Master of Education Programs (M. Ed.)

Chair: Dr. Theodore R. Gilkey
M.Ed. Program Director:
Dr. Gwen Beegle

The Master of Education (M.Ed.) is a professional degree designed for students seeking advanced preparation in the education professions. Like all education programs in the Seidel School, the Master of Education represents the Mission and Conceptual Framework of all Education programs in the Seidel School. Students may also pursue the Master of Science in Mathematics Education through the Henson School of Science.

M.Ed. Programs

Currently licensed teachers or those eligible for licensure can pursue an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction. This degree does not lead to initial teacher certification and is intended to provide advanced professional development for professional educators.

Currently licensed teachers can alternately choose to gain advanced licensure in the Master of Education: Reading Specialist or the Master of Education: Educational Leadership programs.

Prospective students who are not currently licensed teachers and who wish to achieve initial teacher certification should explore the Master of Arts in Teaching Program or the undergraduate programs in Early Childhood Education or Secondary/K-12 Education.

Prospective students who are interested in the M.Ed. for professional goals that require that Masters in Education but are not planning a career in PreK-12 schools should apply for the M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction: Post-Secondary Track.

Professional Development

Prospective students seeking professional development at the graduate level may take courses as a graduate-non-degree-seeking student.

Course Requirements

The M.Ed. program consists of 12 credit hours of core courses, 15-18 hours of program focus,  and three to six hours in a capstone experience. For more information, please see requirements.
