SOWK 650-610 ADV PRACTICE WITH INDIVIDUAL Familiarizes the practitioner with strengths assessment, standardized diagnostic criteria and other processes used within the field to categorize behavior. Utilizes the concepts of mental health, tying an accurate assessment to a specific intervention plan. Specific assessment techniques including formal and informal mental status examinations, global assessment of functioning techniques and diagnostic assessment using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM)-TR are explored. Emphasis on advanced interview skill techniques. Prerequisite: Concentration status or permission of department. Corequisite: SOWK 665. Three hours per week.
SOWK 680-610 ADV PRACTICE WITH GROUPS Builds upon theoretical perspectives from human behavior and the social environment, knowledge and skills from foundation-level practice courses, and theory and skills from the advanced theory and practice course. The course familiarizes the practitioner with the concept of the group as therapeutic communities with curative factors. Prerequisite: SOWK 650 or permission of department. Three hours per week.
