SOWK 650-610 ADV PRACTICE WITH INDIVIDUAL Familiarizes the practitioner with strengths assessment, standardized diagnostic criteria and other processes used within the field to categorize behavior. Utilizes the concepts of mental health, tying an accurate assessment to a specific intervention plan. Specific assessment techniques including formal and informal mental status examinations, global assessment of functioning techniques and diagnostic assessment using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM)-TR are explored. Emphasis on advanced interview skill techniques. Prerequisite: Concentration status or permission of department. Corequisite: SOWK 665. Three hours per week.
SOWK 450-610 SOWK WITH FAMILIES & CHILD Survey of child welfare services and examination of current policies in social work for children and their families. Consideration of practice issues in protective services, in-home services to families and substitute care including adoption and foster care. Prerequisite: SOWK 200 or permission of instructor. Three hours per week.
