- The Commons, located
on a hill at the southwestern corner of campus, is our student
dining facility, but it is much more than that. Its ground
floor houses the campus bookstore and post office, and it
is connected to the Guerrieri University Center by a curved
hallway called "the link". The second floor of The
Commons has University Dining offices, event rooms and a formal
dining room. The 124,000-square- foot Commons is fully accessible
to the handicapped.
- The input students had on the design of
The Commons is evident as soon
as you walk inside. Students wanted lounges where they could meet friends
before going in to eat. Those two lounges are informally called
"the comfort zone." The furniture is attractive, comfortable
and durable. When school is in session, the space between the two lounges
become prime contact territory for student groups.
- Of SU's 6,000 students,
5,200 are full-time equivalent, and 1,700 of them live on
campus. Students living on campus are required to purchase
a meal plan, and they have the option of participating in
either of the two unlimited access plans or a plan that offers
12 meals per week plus Dining Dollars. We also offer smaller
meal plans designed to fit the needs and budgets of our commuters.
Guests are welcome at The Commons, where they can pay cash
to enjoy the same all-you-care-to-eat Marketplace options
at breakfast, lunch and dinner.

- Most of our 4,500 daily visitors have only one thing in mind when they
come through the doors, of course, and it isn't the architecture or meal
plan choices. They want to eat, and their path to satisfaction lies just
on the other side of the entrance.
