- On July 3, 1997, SU
opened the doors of its new dining hall and conference center, called The
Commons. It was just the latest chapter in the university's proud history.
Established in 1925 as a teaching college, SU began offering four-year degrees
in various disciplines in 1935, and added graduate programs in 1962. In 1988,
Salisbury University became a university, and today we have over 7,500
students
in 55 distinct undergraduate
and graduate programs. Generous gifts from civic leaders have made SU
one of the most highly endowed public universities in the country, and
those endowments ensure students of the best faculty, equipment and instructional
programs. Its beautifully landscaped campus has arboretum status. A nationally
accredited, comprehensive university, SU welcomes students from the United
States and many other countries to a campus whose friendly atmosphere encourages
relationships between faculty and students.
