What do I do in case of an emergency during the day?
The Counseling Center is available to assist students with life-threatening crises and emergencies during regular business hours Monday through Friday 8am-5pm. Students can come directly to the Counseling Center and walk in to communicate their need to be seen immediately in an emergency situation. Due to the volume of student needs, students may be seen for a shorter, triage session during crisis situations to determine a plan and a follow up session can be scheduled to further address their needs. Examples of emergencies where students can be seen by the first available counselor include suicidal or homicidal ideation, sexual or other assaults, symptoms of psychosis, or other urgent life circumstances. Should a crisis arise outside of business hours please contact one of the follow resources:
If the emergency is life threatening, call 911.
Can I send an email?
Do not use email in an emergency situation, since it cannot be assured that a counselor will open it at your time of need. Even in non-emergency situations, care should be used when communicating by email since it is not a confidential form of communication.
