An intake is the first appointment a student will experience when seeking services at the Counseling Center. The intake is scheduled for a 90 minute time frame and begins with the student completing demographic and assessment information related to symptoms, types of problems, and treatment history, among other things, on a computer at the Counseling Center. This portion takes approximately 20 minutes. Once completed, a counselor will review this documentation and meet with the student for a 50 minute session. This initial appointment is geared toward gathering information to thoroughly assess a student’s symptoms, history, and goals for therapy. In addition, recommendations will be made and the student and counselor will discuss the student’s individualized plan for treatment. At the conclusion of this appointment, the student will be given their first scheduled session to begin the process of counseling.
*Due to the nature and thoroughness of this first appointment and the documentation that follows there is a limit to the number of intakes that the Counseling Center provides each week. Typically between 30 and 35 intake appointments are available each week for new students seeking services. A typical wait time for an intake appointment can vary from a couple of days to a week or two depending on the time of the semester.
