What Scholars Say about the Program
"I am very glad that the PACE program required us to take an
academic component, and that I selected the Maryland’s Greenways
class. Before taking this class, the environment was not really
my forte...I have learned to appreciate the
dedication of people working to protect Maryland’s Eastern
Shore, which made my appreciation for conservation grow. I now
understand the fragility of this area and how easy it would be
for the Eastern Shore we know to disappear forever. It has
happened in so many other areas, through pollution and failure
to plan, and it would be so easy for Wicomico County to slip
through the cracks, too. I came to this class with very little
knowledge about the “nitty gritty” of environmental conservation
and especially of green infrastructure. I am thankful for this
course for making me want to get involved with the environmental
issues both in my community and on the Eastern Shore. "

"Dr. Molly Andolina's lecture was very informative on
current and past trends dealing with voting and voter turn out.
Dr. Andolina showed me ways in which I can extend my citizenship
in my community to others and encourage others to participate
more within various levels of government, politics and the
community. It was the best lecture I attended for the
Presidential Citizen Scholar Program."

"The PACE program does a nice job of making sure that
students are ... thinking about civic engagement and are
involved. The extra experiences have contributed to life-long
lessons of citizen activism. A positive and enlightening
experience. "
