ROOMS: Pocomoke Room: Second floor of the Guerrieri Center, Take the elevator on the right near the end of the hall as you enter from the Guerrieri parking lot. Exit and walk straight ahead and slightly to the left, to the room behind the information desk. Nanticoke Rooms: Second floor of the Guerrieri Center. Take the elevator on the right near the end of the hall as you enter from the Guerrieri parking lot. Exit and turn left , or right for rooms B&C. Worcester Room (Christmas Luncheon): Second floor of the Commons Bldg. Use the elevator near the entrance to the first floor dining area. Exit, turn left, and go to the farthest room. Parking: Parking in the Guerrieri and Asbury Church lots requires a parking permit. They will be available for purchase at the Sept. 2nd meeting. These can also be purchased at the College Police Station at the corner of Power and Wayne Sts. (Roughly: behind the Racquetball court on Milford St.). Tell the clerk you are with the IRP. |
The IRP Program Committee sponsors a weekly lecture series during the academic year. Speakers include regional business and civic leaders as well as SU faculty who share their expertise (sometimes outside the bounds of their specific discipline). The lectures are informative and frequently fascinating.

September 2nd: Welcome. To old and new members alike – Welcome. We will hear from Bob Tardiff, Associate Provost of Salisbury University, and presentations from our various clubs. You will have an opportunity to pay your dues and purchase parking permits from the Campus Police Dept. Then plan to stay for refreshments and catch up visits with your IRP friends. Wicomico Room.
September 9th: James M. Welsh, Professor Emeritus of English at Salisbury University, will discuss his book “The Literature/Film Reader”, which he co-authored with Peter Lev. The emphasis will be on the adaptation of literary and dramatic works into the cinema. Many well known films and their sources will be included. He will be introduced by June Athey. September 16th: Kids Of Honor. Christie Richardson, Director of the Kids Of Honor Program , which was started by Dr. Paula Morris, will be telling us about the excellent and rewarding work her organization does to encourage students to stay in school until meeting the goal of high school graduation. Also, Dr. Ted Gilkey from the School of Education will present our Scholarship recipients for this year. They will be introduced by June Athey. Wicomico Room.
September 23rd: Inside your Public Radio. Gerry Weston, General Manager of WSCL, the award winning public radio station located at Salisbury University, will discuss the importance of the station to the community and give us some insight into behind the scenes operations. September 30th: Roger Richardson. We are pleased to present Roger Richardson, Maryland’s Secretary Of Agriculture. Mr. Richardson will discuss the accomplishments of his department during the past year with emphasis on certification of 84 small farmer’s markets across the state, 69 of which have been certified to accept WIC (women, infant, children) payments. October 7th: CHINA. Dr. Robert Tardiff, Associate Provost of Salisbury University, will give us a slide presentation, with commentary, on his recent trip to China with other members of the University. He proclaimed it the best trip he has ever taken. He will be introduced by Mary Gene Jenkins. Nanticoke Rooms B&C.

October 14th: Salisbury Zoo. Come meet our new zoo director, Joel Hamilton. He wants to share with us his plans for the future development of one of Salisbury’s special treasures.. He will be introduced by Bob Scott. Nanticoke Rooms B&C.
October 21st: Bus trip to Washington, D. C., to the Newseum, or to the National Gallery Of Art or theSmithsonian Museums on the Mall. The popular recently opened Newseum represents five centuries of news history. It consists of theaters, exhibition galleries and television studios on seven levels. The cost is $60.00 per person, with lunch on your own at the Food Court or the Source by Wolfgang Puck, which is on the main concourse of the Newseum building. The bus will leave at 7:30 AM from the Civic Center and will return at about 5:30 PM.
October 28th: Surgical Pain: Dr. Pasquale Petrera, well known local orthopedic surgeon, has asked to speak to us again about exciting new developments in pain management while undergoing joint replacement surgery. He will be happy to answer your questions. He will be introduced by June Athey. Nanticoke Room.
November 4th: Egypt. Dr. M. Ellasal, one of our members and a native of Alexandria, Egypt, will present a video, “Egypt; Quest For Eternity”, showing pyramids, pharaonic temples, museums of antiquities and present day Egypt. There will be a display of Egyptian artifacts, and your questions will be welcomed. He will be introduced by June Athey. Nanticoke Room.
November 11th: Art in Salisbury. James Gillespie, new Director of the Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council, will discuss his exciting plans for the future of arts in the Salisbury area. He will also entertain us by playing the piano. He will be introduced by Dot Truitt. Nanticoke Room.
November 18th: Works Of Art. Ernie Muehlmatt and Kathy Boyle. Two artists under one roof. Ernie is a multitalented World Champion bird carver and artist. Kathy is also a bird carver and works in many other media. She will bring examples of her silver clay jewelry. They will be introduced by Dot Truitt. Nanticoke Room.
November 25th: Lost Villages On Assateague. Our speaker will be Matthew Heim, a graduate student at Salisbury University who has been researching the lost Assateague Village for his master’s thesis. Matt, on the staff at the Edward H. Nabb center, will give us a pictorial presentation about this once-thriving village near the lighthouse on Assateague Island and tell us the reasons for its disappearance. December 2nd: The Henson School. Dr. Karen Olmstead, the newly appointed head of the Henson School of Science, will tell us about her background in the field of Science, and her vision for the Henson School. December 9th: Aquaculture. Tom Jones, Provost of Salisbury University, will be speaking on the future of aquaculture and its impact on our meal planning and buying habits. He will be introduced by Dot Truitt. Nanticoke Room. Last day to sign up for the Christmas Luncheon.
December 13th: Christmas Luncheon Be sure to set this date aside for our beautiful and delicious Christmas Luncheon. It’s a nice opportunity to gather for fellowship and holiday greetings to all of our friends. Bring a guest if you would like to. The menu will be posted later.
