Dr. John Tyvoll has both a B.S. (1967) and a Ph.D. (1971) in physical-inorganic chemistry from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM). He then received a two year postdoctoral fellowship in the USM Institute for Environmental Studies. Dr. Tyvoll teaches Analytical Chemistry Instrumental Analysis Environmental Chemistry and Chemistry: A Humanistic Perspective the latter a course he designed specifically for non-science majors. His current research interests include nutrient and heavy metal transport in natural water systems as well as atmospheric chemistry especially the measurement of stratospheric and tropospheric ozone in non-urban environments. He also is the faculty advisor for the SU Field Hockey Club.
