Leadership and Professional Development

The Center for Extended & Lifelong Learning is committed to creating and supporting career and leadership development opportunities on the Eastern Shore. Whether it's community engagement projects connecting emerging leaders with industry professionals or leadership workshops for middle school students, CELL believes that lifelong learning and professional and leadership development classes and seminars will contribute to the continued success of Delmarva residents and businesses. 


Keith EagleIn the Moment: Inside the Actors Toolbox

Thursdays, February 8 - March 15

Many professionals are learning that acting skills can ehance their communication skills and executive presence. Students in this highly interactive class will begin to explore the various tools in the Actor's Toolbox including: being in the moment, improving concentration, developing awareness of purpose and intention in yourself and others, the art of listening, and developing creative solutions.  

All of these tools are explored in a light and fun manner that can bring life changing results with time and practice. This will be explored through the use of improvisation, scene work, cold readings and theater games. This is a class for actors, professionals and anyone wanting to enhance public speaking skills. 

Keith Eagle is a professional actor and acting instructor who has taught at numerous arts and educational institutions, such as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Professional Leadership Program and the Kennedy Center Imagination Celebration. As an actor, Keith has performed on stage, film and television with the majority of his principal credits in commercials and industrial/corporate films.

Increasing Your Influence with Others: Moving Your Career Forward Doug DeWitt, associate professor

Leadership is influence. Leaders engage followers; you can't do it alone. Inspiring others toward a shared vision is essential. This six-part workshop will focus on the five levels of influence and how understanding the levels will enhance your leadership skills. Through interactive activities, discussion, readings and reflection you'll determine where you are in your own leadership and chart your career direction forward. 

Dr. Doug DeWitt is associate professor and chair of Salisbury University's Department of Education Leadership and Graduate Studies. He is a certified consultant in the Life Leadership Company and Launching a Leadership Revolution (LLR) Corporate Education. Dr. DeWitt received a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Claremont Graduate University. A native of California, he has lived across the United States and has resided in Salisbury since 2007.

Lori DeWitt, associate professorManaging Conflict from the Inside Out

The bad news is that conflict is unavoidable. The good news is that you are entirely in control of how you handle conflict... or is that the bad news as well? 

In this workshop series you will learn strategies that can dramatically impact how you approach every stage of conflict, from the first indication that a problem exists through forgiveness and relational repair. You can manage conflict mindfully... and that is very good news!

Dr. Lori DeWitt is an associate professor in the Department of Communication Arts at Salisbury University. Her teaching specialties include public speaking and interpersonal dynamics. A former high school English, speech/debate, and special education teachers, she earned her Ph.D. in communications in 2008 from North Dakota State University. In addition to teaching and her family, Loris is also the founding executive director of Faith Filled Women (FFW). FFW is an independent, 501 (c)(3) regional women's ministry that, among other projects and events, hosts an annual conference in Salisbury with national speakers and over 1,000 in attendance.
