Theatre Interview Questions

Below are sample interview questions for your field. In preparing for your interview, you should also review typical theatreinterview questions asked of all majors, thoroughly research the organization, dress professionally, and visit the interviewing skills section of the SU Career Center’s website. Below are sample Theatre interview questions:

-What was your favorite class?
-What sort of person is going to love this character?
-How is this character like you? Different?
-Is it easier to play this character or to be yourself on stage?
-What do you love about this character?
-What’s the biggest challenge about taking on this role?
-Besides yourself, what celebrity would you like to see tackle this character?

Without giving anything away, what’s your favorite line of dialogue?

Besides yourself, which actor in this production is going to blow people away?

If you could play any other character in this show, who would it be?
-What makes a good scene partner?
-Do you like working with the general public? Would you prefer to work alone?
-Give me an example when you were praised for your people skills in a past job.
-Would you say you are a friendly person?
-Why do you want to work at ________?
-What kind of roles do you prefer?
-Tell me about your education.
-Tell me about a time when you had a really bad day but had to perform that night. How did you get through it?
-Tell me about the largest audience you ever performed in front of.
-Describe your acting style.
-What is the most extreme change to your personality, hair, body weight, etc etc, that you have done to prepare for a role?
