Why An Internship? In the 1998-99 Recruitment Trends Survey completed by Michigan State University Collegiate Employment Research Institute, employers were asked what they wanted to see when they evaluated college candidates for employment. Employers gave highest importance to work-related experiences such as internships, summer work and co-ops (from CAM Report, 2/99). Internships are often the beginning of successful careers for students. The majority of internships are taken for academic credit and the academic department helps find, approves the internship and supervises the intern. Alternatively, students find their own internships and then get approval from the appropriate faculty member. In Career Services we compile information that help many students locate internship possibilities. We have a vast array of books that outline nationwide internships as well as files of places in which Salisbury University students have interned. For more information on internships click here.
