Summer Internship with NASA Headquarters
Date inactive: 4/11/2013
For students interested in the nation’s space program and international relations, we invite you to join the international team at NASA Headquarters, in downtown Washington, DC! NASA’s Office of International and Interagency Relations (OIIR) has openings for one to two student interns this summer, for rising junior and senior undergraduate and graduate students, and we look forward to hear from you.
Within NASA OIIR, selected students will join the Aeronautics and Cross-Agency Support Division (ACD), and will have a wide range of activities supporting international cooperation in civil space. Particular assignments and level of responsibilities will vary depending on the skills and abilities of the student. Our internships provide hands-on experience in international negotiations and collaboration, and will offer real-life examples of how policy, politics, and interagency collaboration help further NASA’s mission. Summer interns will have opportunities to work with scientists and engineers to develop and negotiate cooperative international agreements, assist in preparations for senior level visitors from foreign countries and NASA visits abroad, and gain exposure to congressional hearings related to the intern’s area of responsibility. Many past interns have written a paper for their graduate or undergraduate school while here, and usually find a policy topic here that meets their interests. Any majors may apply, including English, Political Science, International Relations, Public Affairs, and Business Administration.
OIIR writes agreements for, and otherwise facilitates, cooperation for all 10 NASA field centers across the country, in addition to providing direct support to the NASA Administrator, Deputy Administrator and other top NASA officials too. For more information about NASA OIIR, please see this website: http://oiir.hq.nasa.gov/index.html
Students interested in joining our team for the summer should forward their resume along with a statement of interest to Ms. Liz Williams at: email@example.com by no later than April 10, 2013.
Due to the nature of our work, NASA OIIR internship positions are limited to U.S. citizens. Like many Washington offices, NASA unfortunately cannot provide a salary to interns, but our student interns often find interesting jobs very soon after working for us. No guarantee, of course, just an observation! For reference, NASA Headquarters is located at 300 E Street, SW, only 2 blocks away from the Federal Southwest Metro rail stop and just a short walk from the U.S. Capitol.
