Pocomoke City is a full-service community of 4,200 residents, located on the beautiful Pocomoke River approx. 22 mi. south of the S.U. campus. Pocomoke City was a finalist in the All-America Cities competitions in 1985 and 2009.
This internship presents a unique opportunity to see first-hand the daily operations of a local government and to be involved in local government management issues. Internship will focus on working with the City Manager on grant-related projects and on economic development issues. The Intern will work closely with the non-profit Downtown Pocomoke Assoc. and Downtown Coordinator to develop a new downtown area map, signage and a walking tour brochure, and to promote local tourist attractions and events. Other duties will include writing grant applications for a wide variety of municipal projects and coordinating current projects as assigned by the City Manager.
Communication and marketing skills would be very useful, along with the ability to work independently and creatively. Ideal majors would include political science, management, marketing, general business, public affairs/relations, organizational development, or communications; others will also be considered.
The City will pay $250 for transportation costs during the internship.
