Date inactive: 3/1/2013
Since 1999, the Refugee Youth Project has provided quality after-school programming to newly arrived refugee children. RYP seeks to improve the lives of Baltimore's youngest refugees by supporting their academic needs, and making their acculturation simple and meaningful. RYP is run by BaltimoreCityCommunity College in conjunction with local refugee resettlement agencies, mainly the International Rescue Committee. RYP is funded by the Maryland Office for New Americans. RYP serves over 300 refugees between the ages of 4 and 21.
RYP Interns and Tutors are an essential part of our programming. Interns provide much needed academic support to refugee youth through tutoring, homework help, and ESL language learning and math activities. Interns also serve as positive role models to refugee youth and help them acclimate to their new lives in the United States.
RYP is looking for an intern to assist the organsization in establishing a business model for its new Social Entrepreurship Initiave. RYP utilizes arts integration when working with newly arrived refugees to help them address the social challenges of living in a new country. The SEI program will focus on providing an integrated curricula of arts skill-building within the framework of marketing, budgeting, promoting, and selling produced goods. The arts and crafts made by youth will be sold at local Art/Community markets, as well as online, with the goal of generating funding to provide you with stipends. The SEI intern would work in collaboration with RYP staff to develop the framework and structure of this program.
