Job Title: Graduate Assistant-Supplemental Instruction
Housed in the Center for Student Achievement, Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a learning enhancement program which consists of a series of weekly review sessions for students taking historically difficult courses. SI sessions are open to all students who want to improve their understanding of the course material, as well as their grades. The GA for Supplemental Instructions primary responsibilities are to assist with the development and implementation of all functions relating to the management of the SI program and supervision of the over 40 undergraduate SI leaders. This assistantship also provides experiences to learn about other Center for Student Achievement initiatives such as academic coaching, tutoring, study skill workshops and presentations, and working with students who are experiencing academic difficulty. Primary Responsibilities: Work 20 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends Become knowledgeable about all CSA services including but not limited the learning and study strategies inventory, supplemental instruction, and study skills strategies, tutoring and academic coaching. Assist with the management of over 50 sections of SI supported courses, including hiring and supervising SI leaders and corresponding with faculty. Assist in the development and provision of trainings for SI leaders (lead In Service trainings each semester) Observe SI sessions and provide feedback to SI leaders on a weekly basis Collect data on student usage of Supplemental Instruction and compare data of non-SI vs. SI. Become proficient in Microsoft Office SharePoint to assist with web development-keep SI website up to date. Manage of SI paperwork, attendance records, SI leader office hours, etc. Coordinate with the Assistant Director of SI in the expansion of the SI program. Serve on other committees as assigned Assist with marketing efforts with students, families and faculty including RA floor meetings, open houses, and orientation Provide academic support (coaching, advising) to undergraduate students Research and/or Teaching Duties May Include: Teach and develop study strategies workshops Develop on-line instructional workshops facilitation (podcasts) and service promotion through social media Coach students on probation and restricted academic status Provide tutoring services for courses within the GAs undergraduate major Conduct research on learning center best practices, learning strategies, SI, and tutoring Conduct research on advising and services for still deciding majors Develop student satisfaction survey for feedback on services.
