Career Office

The Bachelor of Arts in Music is designed for students who wish to
combine the study of music with other interests in a vibrant liberal
arts environment. The program provides an extraordinarily broad range of
study options so that students enjoy the flexibility to pursue varied
interests. In order that career choices are expanded and not limited,
the degree program is divided into a menu of four diverse study
"tracks." A "track" is a particular study program within the overall
degree requirements
Degree Tracks

Bachelor
of Arts in Music - Music Technology

This track is designed to give students a basic foundation in music
production to prepare them for a variety of careers within the music
technology industry. This is a professional degree track that provides
general education as a foundation coupled with a traditional music
background and an emphasis in music production. Eight Semester Plan
The traditional Bachelor of Arts curriculum is designed to provide a
broad-based knowledge of all aspects of music history, theory,
performance and pedagogy for students seeking a general understanding of
music to compliment a career in any profession. Eight Semester Plan

of Arts in Music - Vocal Performance
This track is designed for students who aspire to careers in
performance, whether as a soloist or as a member of a performance

of Arts in Music - Instrumental Performance
This track is designed for students who aspire to careers in
performance, whether as concert soloists or as members of performance
ensembles. Eight Semester Plan
Bachelor
of Arts in Music/Teacher Certification
The teacher certification program is designed for students who wish to
pursue careers in music education in a classroom setting and seeks to
equip students to meet certification requirements in the public schools.
This is a state-approved degree program for the state of Maryland. Eight

What
Can I do With a Major in Music?
Music
Technology Jobs:
-Music Production/Engineering -Degrees and specializations in
this area allow individuals to work in the recording/media side of the
music industry:
-Acousticians/Acoustic Consultants: Work with builders and other
specialists to determine/design the sound field properties of a given
room or area
-Audio Engineer: Work with the recording of music: microphone
placement, mixing, re-mixing, etc.

-Audio Producers: Usually have oversight of the entire recording
process for any given recording session
-Audio Technicians (assistants): Work side-by-side with the audio
engineers
-Electronic Engineer/Computer Engineer Sound Specialists: These
positions will require degrees in mechanical/electrical/computer
engineering and get to develop and work with the latest music production
technology equipment and gear
-Multimedia Specialist/Developer: Work with the digitization of
recorded media for anything from internet usage to video and film usage
-Post Production Sound Engineer: A specific type of sound
engineer that works with sound recordings after the recording process is
finished
-Software Designer: Design software with regard to the various
music applications and music related computer needs (degrees and/or
proficiency in computer programming will also be required)
-Teach music related technology programs/courses at the private,
public, or College/University level with the appropriate degrees
