The GAP Year:  Opportunities, International & Otherwise, for You-Beyond College Graduation

Ever hear of a GAP year?  Well, a gap year is a tradition in which many Europeans engage.  Between their high school graduation and college OR between their college graduation and starting a full time job, these new graduates spend up to a year pursuing interests, trying out new things, and following their heart and passions.  It is the GAP year.  That year between. Some of the links below could help you put a GAP year together for yourself.

The Center for Interim Programs  A consulting service that helps young people find meaningful gap year placements. Since inception in 1980 as the first organization of its kind in the US, Interim has designed creative gap year opportunities for over 5,000 young people. We have built relationships with organizations worldwide and offer a database of over 5,200 program opportunities.

Volunteer Abroad-During and After your college years there are many opportunities for you to help others in a country other than the US.  You will find a variety of needs and varying lengths of time.  check it out!

Job Opportunities Internationally-Listed are a variety of international job opportunities.  These websites are job-related resources and provide  you a good starting point in your job search. 

Internships Abroad-usually we think of internships as something that happens during college.  However, many organizations and employers will allow a new/recent college graduate to take the position of an intern.  If you are interested in an internship, ask if this might be the case-it often is. 

Season Worker-Seasonal jobs, courses & gap years

Teaching English Abroad-It is great if you have training in ESL (English as a second language), but for many positions a degree in ESL is NOT required.  Want a one year, paid job overseas?  This may be the job for you.  Check out the ESL opportunities.
