Interest Inventories/Self Assessment

Self-assessment is about doing a realistic appraisal of yourself and is the
starting point for career planning. While there is no "test" that can
determine what you should "be," there are tools that can help you
evaluate
yourself and find occupations and careers that fit with you.
Assessment Tools
SU offers a variety of career exploration tools designed to help you assess
your personal characteristics (e.g., interests, values, abilities) as they
relate to occupations and fields of study.
FOCUS:
The Salisbury University Career Services is pleased to provide you with
Focus Enhanced, a self-directed, online Career Self-Assessment Tool. Whether
you are exploring majors or career paths, this can help you begin
your exploration. Features of the online Focus Enhanced Career & Education

an appointment with Career Services to review your results upon completion of the assessment.
NEWLY REVISED STRONG INTEREST
INVENTORY: (Nov. 2007)
The Newly Revised Strong Interest Inventory is available on the internet and
takes about 30 minutes to complete. This 291-item inventory matches your
interests with the interests of people who have been in career fields at
least three years and are at least satisfied with their work.
You'll spend 30-45 minutes on the computer taking the inventory and then
schedule a follow-up appointment with a qualified career counselor to talk
with you about your results.
How do You Take the Strong?
Request
a username/password from an Advisor in Career Services.
Go to
this
website once you have your username and password.
Once you take Strong
make an appointment for the interpretation: Call 410-543-6075 or email
careerservices@salisbury.edu or stop by Career Services in GUC 133.
Do NOT make an appointment with a counselor unless you have COMPLETED
Strong and generated the Strong Report.
To
gain information about the occupations listed on Strong go to
O*NET to gather a wealth of
info.
-To Generate a Student Report:
-Select Assessment Type-Newly Revised Strong
-Select Type-Newly Revised Strong Profile, College OR last name.
You will receive a list of all available results. Check the
box to the far right of the individuals' names for whom you wish to generate
a report and click "Generate to PDF". Click Continue and Print (Do NOT Print Report until student is in your
office!)
We have purchased 100 reports as of Dec. 2007-$8.00 per report.
What
Do You Want to be When You Grow Up?
From Salisbury University a comprehensive exploration tool that utilizes Dr.
John Holland's six Personality Types. This instrument also explores
many occupations that are associated with the personality types and provides
links to the Occupational Outlook Handbook for each job link. Very
in-depth.

types. Select your three choices from the six types, and view related
occupations. Links take you to the Occupational Outlook Handbook for details
