Field technician needed for Fall 2014 Virginia Stocked Trout Angler Study Any 9/26/2014 [-]

Job Description: The Department of Fish and Wildlife Conservation at Virginia Tech seeks to hire a fisheries technician to assist with a study of stocked trout anglers on streams and lakes managed by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.  The technician will be responsible for conducting creel surveys on two different water bodies.  The technician will be expected to travel (work vehicle provided), but will be stationed in the Shenandoah Valley.  Creel surveys will be conducted from October through May.  Work schedule will vary and will include weekends and possibly some holidays.  

Training will be provided before the start of the project.  Field work will begin on October 1, 2014.  The technician will be expected to work 15-35 hours per week through May 31, 2015.

Desired Qualifications:  The applicant should possess excellent interpersonal/communication skills and be comfortable interacting with the public. This individual must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and during irregular work hours.  The applicant should demonstrate an ability to work independently. This individual should possess experience in the natural resource field.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serves as primary contact person between the Child Advocacy Center team and the victim’s family; provides follow up and communication to the victim’s family between initial investigation and beginning of legal proceedings

Performs crisis intervention, facilitates support groups, provides medical advocacy, some assistance in legal matters (e.g. protective orders, case updates, court accompaniment or court orientation programming)

Delivers community presentations and client/community education

Conducts team facilitation, participates in Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings

Camp Courageous is a year-round recreational and respite
care facility for individuals with disabilities. Campers with
intellectual and physical disabilities, brain injuries, hearing or
visual impairments, autism and other special needs are served.
Working with children and adults with special needs is often a very real challenge.
Campers may need help with personal care including feeding, dressing, and bathroom
needs. Some campers exhibit behavioral challenges. Patience, energy, good judgment
and enthusiasm are important qualifications for a position at Camp Courageous. The
hours are long. An unselfish attitude and an emphasis on teamwork are needed. Staff
are expected to put the campers’ needs before their own. If you possess the necessary

Volunteer positions, internships, and paid positions are available. Volunteers and
Interns can receive an optional stipend of $25.00/week plus room and board, and a
restricted medical plan.

Paid counselors and activity specialists receive the best employment package around.
Seasonal staff earn $385/week while year-round staff earn $500-550/week. Room
and board are provided which include air-conditioned staff dormitories affording the
staff separate living quarters from the campers. Staff share cabin duty on a rotating
basis. Other benefits include a restricted medical plan for seasonal staff and health
insurance and one week of paid vacation for year-round staff. Camp provides a bonus
for returning seasonal summer staff and a monetary incentive for recruiting additional
staff. Candidates for year-round positions must have experience with individuals with
disabilities. Seasonal positions are for one or more season.

After School Kids Klub - Staff Needed

The Wicomico County Recreation, Parks and Tourism is now hiring staff for our AFTER SCHOOL KIDS KLUB for the 2014-2015 school year.  We are looking for qualified individuals (must be at least 18 and have completed coursework) who want to work with elementary age youth. This program is an enrichment program to help youth build stronger relationships with their school, classmates and community.  Also, our youth make arts & crafts projects, play games, participate in sports and have FUN!  The program follows a weekly routine with monthly themes.  Staff will be asked to plan and organize specific activities according to the outlined curriculum. 

Working hours are Monday thru Friday from 2:15/3:45PM until 5:30 PM at local elementary schools in Wicomico County.   Pay for new hires is $8.50 per hour for counselors.  Must be able to work during the weeks of December 16-20 and January 6-24.
