Mission Statement:
In
support of the mission of Salisbury University, the
Department of Campus Recreation offers the University
community recreational and educational opportunities that
teach the values of wellness of mind, body and spirit.
Campus Recreation enhances the collegiate experience,
fosters personal and professional development and provides
opportunities for cultural and social interaction.
Values Statement:
The
mission, goals, objectives, plans, and actions of Campus
Recreation are defined by the shared values of the unit. The
values reflect those of the University and support the
freedoms inherent to a democratic society. Student
development is the foundation for programs while education
is the focus of services. A safe cordial environment is
conducive to leisure pursuits and should be accessible to
all within the University community. Recreational and
leisure interaction fosters an acceptance of diversity,
promotes teamwork, and facilitates understanding among
diverse populations. Programs and services focus on the
development requirement of the individual and provide
knowledge necessary to make healthy lifestyle choices.
Campus Recreation pursues excellence through wellness and
recreational activities which promote a learning and growing
environment. The pursuit of health, fitness, and wellness
enhances students' academic endeavors, and a commitment to
healthy choices and behaviors will produce life-long
benefit.
Vision
Statement:
We,
as recreation and wellness professionals, affirm that
student learning and development is the primary goal of
education and the emphasis of all our efforts. By creating
collaborative partnerships with the University community we
will help students, faculty, and staff connect academic work
and out-of-class experiences to achieve the desired outcomes
of undergraduate education. We must have the knowledge and
experience in learning and development theory needed to
guide educational policies and practices that augment
student growth.
