News and Updates

10/01/08-  Currently, Mac Address registration is only availible for wired network devices like game consoles and tivo.  Iphones / Itouch and other wireless-type devices are not currently supported.  We do plan on supporting those devices in the near future.  Once we have this support in place, there will be a notice here letting you know.

RESNET is provided to all students living on-campus and those in University Park I & II.  Each student will have their own Ethernet port for plugging in their computer, gaming console, or other network devices (after registering the system).  NO HUBS, SWITCHES, ROUTERS OR WIRELESS ACCESS POINTS ARE ALLOWED TO BE HOOKED UP TO YOUR RESNET  ETHERNET PORT.

Each Ethernet port for RESNET is 10BaseT.  Your computer will need to have at least a 10BaseT Ethernet card to connect to our network.  Most computers have a 10/100BaseT Network card and many newer ones have a 10/100/1000BaseT Network card.  If you are unsure if your computer has a Ethernet card, look on the back of your computer (or back/sides of your laptop) for a port that looks similar to the ones listed below:

An Ethernet port can be further identified by examining it closely and counting the number of gold pins.  A standard Ethernet port will have 8 gold pins.  Do not confuse this with a Phone port, which has 2 or 4 gold pins.

A common problem during move-in is mixing up a Phone cable and an Ethernet Cable.  A Phone cable connector will have 2 or 4 gold pins on it and an Ethernet cable connector will have 8 gold pins.  Also the Ethernet plug on the end of the cable is generally larger.   See the picture below for a side-by-side comparison:
