CADR Major
The curriculum requirements for the CADR major are designed
to provide a sound pre-professional training ground for
undergraduate students who intend to pursue professional
conflict intervention positions or to continue in a higher
education setting. The major is designed to provide specialized
pre-professional training with its emphasis on analytical and
practical skills. While remaining anchored in a liberal arts
tradition and strongly rooted in the social sciences, the
program is designed to easily allow students to study in other
fields outside the major in order to enrich these skills and
these traditions. The faculty works with students individually
to develop strong analytical and practical skills. Students are
also guided in the development of a work ethic appropriate to
professional conflict resolution practitioners.
The major in conflict analysis and dispute resolution
requires time in the field working with organizations and
institutions that need conflict resolution services. The major
has an internship and field research requirement that can be
completed in the local community, the region, the nation or
internationally.
The Bachelor of Arts in conflict analysis and dispute
resolution requires a minimum of 120 credit hours.
Students will complete 12 courses in
General Education and 10 courses in CADR.
The remaining credits will be completed as elective credit hours.
CADR students will successfully complete a total of
10 courses
in CADR (including electives) with no less than 15 of the total
credit hours for the major at the 300-400 level. All required
courses must be completed with grades of C or better.
Transfer students majoring in conflict analysis and dispute
resolution are required to complete at least
3 upper-level CADR courses with a grade of C or better at
Salisbury University.
Double Major
Students have also found that CADR makes an
excellent double major to supplement their skills in
other disciplines. Ultimately, CADR students develop
strong analytical and practical skills to better understand
and respond to conflict dynamics at all levels of
human interaction. Developing skills to better deal with
conflict and to understand the dynamics involved will be useful
no matter what profession you find yourself in.
We have found that CADR compliments the
following areas of study as a double major: Business
Administration, Communication Arts, Early Childhood Education,
Elementary Education, Environmental Health, Environmental
Issues, History, Information Systems, International Studies, Management,
Nursing, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Social Work, and
Sociology.
