SU women's
tennis goes 2-1 in California
CLAREMONT, Calif. -
The Salisbury University women's tennis team wrapped up its spring break trip
with a 2-1 mark out in Claremont, Calif. The Sea Gulls (4-4) won their first two
matches against Colorado College and Caltech by identical 8-1 scores. Those two
wins extended Salisbury's win streak to four straight. The streak was short
lived as Salisbury lost 8-1 to No. 8 University of the South on Tuesday
afternoon.
Salisbury's No. 2 doubles team of freshman Jackie Burr and sophomore
Anna Marie Kable were the only team to go a perfect 3-0 during the trip
west. Burr and Kable defeated Jordan Casey and Molly Willet 8-3 to secure the
only point against the nationally ranked University of the South.
In the
first two matches against Colorado College on Sunday and Caltech on Monday the
Sea Gulls won their points in straight sets. The only losses came at No. 1
singles where senior Erika Mitry lost to Colorado College's Kelsey Smith
7-5, 6-2 and Caltech's Chen Yee Liaw 6-0, 6-0.
Mitry
rebounded in doubles where she paired with teammate Jenny Rosler to
defeat the No. 1 doubles for Colorado College and Caltech. SU's doubles teams
went a combined 6-0 against Colorado College and Caltech.
Salisbury returns to action next Wednesday, March 28, when they
travel to Capital Athletic Conference foe St. Mary's (Md.) College.
