Women's Soccer Ousted From CAC Tournament, 2-1
October 30, 2005
SALISBURY-ST. MARY'S STATS |
SU FINAL SEASON STATISTICS
ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. - The Salisbury
University women’s soccer squad completed its worst season in the history of the
sport Sunday when the Sea Gulls were eliminated in the quarterfinal round of the
Capital Athletic Conference tournament by St. Mary’s College, 2-1. It was the
first time the Gulls have been eliminated in the opening round of the tourney
since the team began play in 1994 and only the second time Salisbury has not
reached the tournament’s championship game.
Entering the 2005 season, the St. Mary's
(9-5-1) had not defeated Salisbury since the 1998 season. Two weeks ago, the
Seahawks broke that winless streak (0-7-3) with a 2-1 home victory, ultimately
giving the Seahawks the #4 seed in Sunday's first round of the tournament. The
Seahawks used that home field advantage to defeat #5 Salisbury for the second
time this season and advance to the semifinal round of the CAC tournament for
the first time in three years.
St. Mary's opened the scoring in the second
minute of play when senior forward Megan Schmidt scored an unassisted goal at
the 1:16 mark. The goal was the sixth of the season for Schmidt.
The Seahawks maintained the 1-0 lead until
the opening minutes of the second half. Salisbury tied the contest at 1-1 when
sophomore forward Kate Weaver scored off of an assist from freshman
defender Erica Fort. Fort took an initial shot that bounced right off the
crossbar and dropped right to the feet of Weaver. Weaver took a shot that
slipped past freshman goalkeeper Marie Oben at the 48:28 mark.
St. Mary's responded with the game-winning
goal at the 67:44 mark when junior forward Laurie Hofmann scored her third goal
of the season. Hofmann collected a centering pass from the right side off of the
foot of junior midfielder Carolyn Amirpashaie and put it in the back of the net
to give the Seahawks the victory.
The Seahawks held a 17-11 advantage in total
shots while Salisbury claimed a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
Oben recorded six saves in earning the win
for St. Mary's and improving her season record to 5-5-1 in the process. Senior
Katie Hendrickson made eight saves in taking the loss for Salisbury.
St. Mary's will now advance to the CAC
tournament semifinals. The Seahawks will play at #1-seed Catholic University
(16-0-2) on Wednesday. Catholic remained unbeaten on the year with an 8-0
blanking of Gallaudet University on Sunday.

Sea Gull
Capture Second Straight CAC Matchup, 4-0
October 23, 2005
SALISBURY-GOUCHER STATS
SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury Women’s
Soccer team won its second straight Capital Athletic Conference game in
dominating fashion over Goucher College Sunday afternoon at the SU Soccer
Complex. This improves Salisbury’s record to 2-3-1 inside the CAC and gives the
Gulls some momentum building toward the league tournament.
From the opening whistle, Salisbury played
like a team with something to prove on Senior Day. Just 6:50 into the game,
Dana Passucci (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) scored on a feed from Kate
Weaver (Abingdon, MD/Edgewood). Less than ten minutes later, Passucci would
get the assist this time as Natalie Day (Beltsville, MD/Pallotti)
found the back of the net. At halftime, the Sea Gulls led 2-0 and held a 21-2
shot advantage over the Gophers.
Picking up right where they left off,
Salisbury dictated the tempo to start the second half. Day would strike again
only six minutes into the half on a beautiful crossing pass from Heather
Pallet (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park). Again, the Sea Gulls pounded the
Goucher goalie with shot after shot. Weaver finished the scoring with a goal in
the final minute of play on another outstanding cross, this time from Sara
Nickoles (Ashton, MD/Blake).
Stephanie Ricketts made 17 saves for the
Gophers while Katie Hendrickson (Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Township) made four
stops for Salisbury in the shutout win. The Sea Gulls tallied an amazing 42
shots and 11 corner kicks.
Salisbury hopes to match this effort as it
takes on Gallaudet Tuesday, October 25, to end the regular season. A victory
would bring the Sea Gulls to a .500 record in CAC play and improve postseason
seeding.

each scored first-half goals Friday as the Salisbury University women’s soccer
team snapped its five-match winless streak with a 2-1 road victory over
Marymount University in Arlington, Va.
Marymount gave up two first half goals to
visiting Salisbury and was able to cut the deficit in half early in the second

Reed (Severna Park/Arnold, MD) hit the game’s
first goal in the 18th minute. Less than seven minutes later, Mabey (Vernon
Township/Highland Lakes, NJ) hit the game-winner off a feed from Kelly Salter

Salisbury Drops 1-0 Nailbiter to Rowan
October 18, 2005
SALISBURY-ROWAN
UNIVERSITY STATS
SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University
women’s soccer team dropped a close non-conference contest to Rowan University,
1-0, at the SU Soccer Complex.
The Sea Gulls and the Profs each had a
couple of scoring chances, but only the Profs were able to turn one into a goal.
At 28:55 in the first period, Aimee Yerkes took a touch pass from Karen Patruno
and placed it behind Salisbury goalie Katie Hendrickson (Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean
Township) for a 1-0 Rowan lead.
Other than the lone
goal, Hendrickson had a solid first period with three saves. She caused the
Rowan offense to fire wide and high several times due to good positioning.
Salisbury also had its opportunities in the first period. The Sea Gulls could
not cash in on four early corner kicks, despite beating the Prof defense on
several occasions.
For the game, Salisbury
held a slight 4-3 advantage in corner kicks while Rowan out shot the Sea Gulls,
12-6.
In the last five
minutes of play, Salisbury tested the Rowan defense, but each time the Profs
turned the attempts away.
