Two second
half goals lead SU over Wesley
DOVER, Del. -
The Salisbury
University women’s soccer team remained unbeaten on the 2007 season as the Sea
Gulls handed Capital Athletic Conference newcomer Wesley College a 2-0 loss on
Tuesday night in front of a crowd of 200.
The Sea Gulls (4-0-1, 1-0 CAC) scored two second half goals and junior goalie
Kristin Greene denied the only Wolverine (6-2, 0-2 CAC) shot on goal to
preserve the win.
Senior forward Kate Weaver had a hand in both SU scores as she netted
home the first goal just 32 seconds into the start of the second half. Weaver’s
unassisted strike was her team-leading fifth goal of the year.
The Sea Gulls, who moved up to No. 5 in the latest Middle Atlantic Region
rankings, struck again late in the second half (81st minute) as junior
midfielder Christina Eury cashed in on her first goal of the season off a
feed from Weaver to give SU the 2-0 lead.
Weaver now has a team-high 14 points on the season.
Corner kicks were even for the game as both teams had four opportunities while
the maroon and gold held the advantage in shots (20-5) and shots on goal (12-1).
Greene picked up her second win of the season in as many tries as Wesley goalie
Brittany Block made 10 saves in the loss.
Salisbury returns to action on Saturday, September 22, as it travels to
Stevenson, Md., to face CAC opponent Villa Julie College at Noon.
