SU breaks away in second half for win
ST.
MARY'S CITY, Md. -
In a rematch of last year's Capital Athletic
Conference championship the score was different but the result remained the
same. The Sea Gulls defeated CAC foe St. Mary’s (Md.) College, 2-0, Saturday afternoon
in front of a crowd of 300.
Salisbury (10-1-1, CAC
6-1) broke a scoreless halftime tie as junior Christina Eury netted her
third goal of the year on a rebound put back in the 55th minute off an assist from
senior Kate Weaver.
The Sea Gulls added an insurance goal in the 69th minute as sophomore Hillary
Grove scored her second goal of the season on an assist from Eury.
St. Mary's (4-9-1, CAC 2-3-1) had three chances to score in the first half as it
held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks but the Sea Gulls denied any Seahawk
threat.
The maroon and gold held the advantage in shots over the Seahawks, 12-9.
Junior goalkeeper Gena Goodson stopped all five shots on goal she faced and
helped Salisbury record its fifth shutout of the season as she improved to 6-1-1
in the net.
Salisbury returns to action on Monday, October 15, as they host Richard Stockton
at the SU Soccer Complex for a 4 p.m. game.
