Goucher 71, Salisbury 68

Senior guard Stephanie Tolbert scored 27 points and
senior forward Kate Guggino added 20 to lead visiting Goucher to a 71-68
Capital Athletic Conference win at Salisbury.
The Gophers (8-6, 2-3 CAC) built a 12-point halftime lead and never trailed in
the second half. Salisbury (9-7, 3-2 CAC) rallied from a 14-point deficit over
the final 5:23 and pulled to within one point twice in the final 24 seconds, the
second time at 69-68. Tolbert and Stacy Hollander each converted one free
throw in the final 17 seconds to seal the win for Goucher.
Sophomore forward Kiera Watkins led Salisbury with a
career-high 31 points and added a game-high 13 rebounds. Sophomore guard Christen
Barney added 16 for the Sea Gulls.
Goucher 68, Salisbury 65
Men’s College Basketball
Junior forward Garrett Smith scored a game-high 20
points and added 10 rebounds to lead visiting Goucher to a 68-65
come-from-behind win at Salisbury. The Gophers (9-6, 3-2 CAC) rallied from a
16-point first half deficit to register the road victory. Salisbury falls to
3-11, 0-5 CAC.
Goucher battled back from a 35-25 halftime deficit to knot
the score for the first time in the second half at 51-51 with 10:12 remaining.
The lead changed hands four times and the game was also tied two more times over
the next seven minutes before Goucher secured its final lead with 3:20 left on
two free throws by Smith. Salisbury pulled to within one at 66-65 in the closing
seconds, but missed a free throw with five seconds remaining that would have
tied the game. Goucher forward Trevor Quinn then converted two more free
throws before Salisbury’s three-pointer to tie the game at the buzzer failed.
Forward Pierre Jones added 14 points for the
Gophers, while Quinn finished with nine points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Freshman forward Sean Whittaker paced Salisbury with
18 points, including four treys. Freshman guard Ray Williams added 16
points, while Neal Tucker and Justin Rice contributed eight points
each off-the-bench.
