Wolverines rip away victory
from Sea Gulls
SALISBURY, Md. - The
visiting Wesley Wolverines eked out a 61-59 women's basketball victory over
Salisbury University on Wednesday evening at the Maggs Center in a Capital
Athletic Conference showdown between the Rt. 13 rivals.

Mules drained a three-pointer with 18 seconds left in the game to put Wesley up
60-59. The Wolverines (6-6, 3-1 CAC) tacked on a free throw to seal the game.
Salisbury (4-9, 1-3 CAC)
led by as much as 12 points with eight minutes left in the game that featured
seven lead changes. Sea Gull junior Monica Merkel led all-scorers with 21
points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. SU had 10 different players score
a point in the loss. The Sea Gulls shot 34.3 percent from the field for the
game. SU outscored Wesley in second chance points, 22-0. Senior Meghan
Phillips (six points) made a game-high four steals while freshman Chante
McKinney made a game-high six assists.
Wesley forward Colleen
Thomas led the Wolverines with 17 points followed by teammate Latasha Torres' 11
points. Both players came off the bench for Wesley as the Wolverines had 35
bench points. Salisbury led 32-29 at the half. The two teams combined to commit
46 turnovers.
Salisbury
will travel to Washington, D.C., on Saturday to face Gallaudet University at 2
p.m. in another CAC contest.
