fall to King's, 76-69
ARLINGTON, Va. –
The Salisbury University women's basketball team dropped its second straight
game on the road in the
Marymount (Va.)
tournament in Arlington, Va., against King’s (Pa.) College on Saturday by the score of 76-69.
Salisbury
(0-2) trailed the entire first half and with 12:46 left in the second half the
Sea Gulls took their first lead of the ball game, 48-46. King's (1-1) answered
immediately and regained the lead with 10:39 left in regulation. SU could not
mount another comeback as it could not pull closer than three points en route to
the seven-point defeat.
The Gulls were led by sophomore Janay Johnson who recorded a
double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds in 25 minutes of action. Salisbury
also received double-digit outputs from juniors Lindsey Martin (16
points) and Monica Merkel (11 points).
SU struggled with its shooting as it shot 28-for-73 (35.9 percent) from the
field and 4-for-21 (19 percent) from three-point range while only making nine of
its 17 free throw attempts.
King's was led by Jenna Palumbo who poured in 31 points on 7-for-10 shooting
from beyond the arc. King's starters Lauren Kendra and Kaitlyn Fiorino both combined
for 26 points and 16 rebounds.
The Sea Gulls forced 21 turnovers and outrebounded King's, 49-33, but could not
capitalize on the opportunities.
Salisbury
returns to action tomorrow Sunday, November 18, as they play in a consolation
game vs. Geneseo at 9:30 a.m.
