Coach Mapp
wins first game at Salisbury
ARLINGTON, Va. -
Coach Charisse Mapp won
her first game as the coach for Salisbury University as the Sea Gulls beat SUNY
Geneseo 70-46 on Sunday morning in the 7th/8th place consolation game in the
20th annual Marymount Tip-off Classic.
The Sea Gulls (1-2) had five players score in double figures led by junior
Monica Merkel who scored a team-high 13 points and was named to the
all-tournament team. Senior Meghan Phillips added 13 of her own points
off the bench for the maroon and gold.
Salisbury held Geneseo (0-3) to under 30 percent shooting from the field and
outscored the Knights by 18 points in the second half en route to the 24-point
win.
SU's bench outscored the Geneseo reserves 34-14 and as a team held a 40-34
rebound advantage.
Junior Lindsay Martin pulled down five rebounds and scored 10 points
while sophomore Janay Johnson and senior Christina Klamp each had
10 points in the win.
The Sea Gulls return to the court on Tuesday, November 20, as they host Virginia
Wesleyan in the home opener at 5 p.m. at Maggs Physical Activities Center.
