Salisbury, Md. - Despite leading 9-5 with just under 10 minutes remaining, top-seeded Salisbury had to fight off feisty #4-seed Mary Washington before surviving with a 9-8 victory in the semifinals of the Capital Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Tournament.

The Sea Gulls (11-2), ranked #4 nationally, advance to the conference finals against #2-seed St. Mary's, an 18-6 winner over Goucher on Tuesday. The title game will be played in Salisbury on Sunday at noon.

Salisbury opened up a 5-1 lead with 13:36 remaining in the first half as five different players put the ball in the back of the net. But the Eagles (9-7) stayed within striking distance at intermission, trailing 6-3. The Sea Gulls opened up a 9-5 advantage on a pair of goals by sophomore Liz Funk and another by Amanda Tack (1-g, 1-a) and appeared to be in control with 9:48 remaining.

But MWC junior Erica Larsen scored twice and freshman Stephanie Hearn added another and with 29.9 seconds remaining the Eagles had a chance to tie the score. But the Sea Gulls denied a pair of shots down the stretch.

SU's Funk, along with junior Sarah Stafkosky, led the Gulls as each scored a pair of goals. Junior Linda Ackermann added a two assists. Salisbury sophomore goalie Ali Goetz recorded nine saves.

Hearn scored three times to pace the Eagles. Larsen added a pair of scores. Sophomore goalie Robyn Lankford posted 15 saves.
