Salisbury, Md - Senior attacker Jessica White and sophomore midfielder Erin McCarthy scored four goals each to power #4 ranked Salisbury to an 18-7 win over Cabrini in the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament Saturday. The Sea Gulls (15-2) advance to Sunday’s regional final to play #5 ranked Gettysburg, which defeated #11 ranked Washington & Lee 13-8 in Saturday’s second regional semifinal.

White scored three straight goals to open the game and McCarthy added the next two as Salisbury built a 5-0 lead in the opening 16:24 of the game.  Cabrini (14-5) answered by scoring three of the next five goals to pull to within 7-3 with 7:07 remaining in the half.

Salisbury countered with three of the final four markers in the first half, including goals by Lynsey Bateman and Mary Bateman in the final minute, both assisted by McCarthy, to build a 10-4 halftime lead. McCarthy finished with a game-high four assists in addition to her four goals.

White and McCarthy tallied the first two goals of the second half as the lead grew to 12-4. Cabrini pulled to with 13-6 on Amy Pia’s goal with 13:44 remaining, but Salisbury closed by scoring five of the final six goals for the final margin. Sophomore Amanda Tack and senior Amber Stansbury, who each finished with three goals, scored two each in SU’s closing run.

Salisbury outshot Cabrini 33-22, and controlled 17 of 27 draws in the game. Salisbury’s Ali Goetz finished with 11 saves, while Cabrini goalie Jamie Knobler registered 13 saves.

Sophomore midfielder Dana Malmstrom led the Cavaliers with two goals. Sophomore Erin Romano finished with one goal and one assist.

Salisbury, which extended its winning streak to 10 games, advances to the national quarterfinal round for the fifth time in team history, including the second straight season.
