Sea Gulls ease by Yellow Jackets in rout
ASHLAND, Va. –
The seventh ranked Salisbury University women’s lacrosse team breezed by Randolph-Macon Saturday afternoon with a 21-5 win over the Yellow Jackets. The Sea Gulls were paced by junior Sue Ackermann who totaled a game high eight points (4 goals, 4 assists).

Salisbury (2-0) jumped out early as senior Katie Simmons scored the games first goal at the 23:14 mark to put the Sea Gulls up one. Senior Natalie Degele scored three minutes later and Simmons added her second goal of the half at 19:49 to put SU up 3-0.

The Yellow Jackets (0-1) answered as Kelly Cramer pulled RMC within two, 3-1, but the Sea Gulls scored the next seven goals to take a 10-1 advantage. Randolph-Macon responded with three unanswered goals of its own, however senior Stephanie Shores closed out the half with her second goal to give Salisbury an 11-4 halftime lead.

The second half was similar to the first half for the Sea Gulls. Salisbury continued to pour in the goals as Ackermann scored 50 seconds into the half. After senior Ani Khatchatoorian scored her second goal of the game Ackermann netted the next two goals to put SU up 15-4.

The Sea Gulls continued to have little trouble finding the back of the net as junior Alexis Morrell and senior Kelly Mulligan each netted a goal before Ackermann cashed in on her fourth goal of the day at the 12:40 mark.

Freshman Stephanie Cahill, Morrell, sophomore Holly Johnson and Shores closed out the scoring for the Sea Gulls.

Freshman Erin Will improved her record to 2-0 as a starter as she made five saves. Fellow freshman Natalie Pappas made four stops for the Gulls off the bench.

The Sea Gulls return to action on Wednesday, February 28 as they host Virginia Wesleyan College at 3 pm at Sea Gulls Field. Last season Salisbury cruised to a 16-4 win over the Marlins.
