Sea Gulls finish conference play unbeaten
TOWSON, Md. –
The No. 2 Salisbury University women’s lacrosse team wrapped up its regular season with a 23-9 win over Capital Athletic Conference opponent Goucher College on Friday afternoon in front of a crowd of 175.

The Sea Gulls (15-1, 7-0 CAC) had 14 different goal scorers in the win as they were led by the four-goal effort of senior Stephanie Shores.

Goucher (7-7, 4-3 CAC) led early in the contest as it built a 3-0 lead just five minutes into the game but SU responded with the five unanswered goals to take a 5-3 advantage. After a pair of Gopher goals the Sea Gulls closed out the half on an 8-0 run to go into the half up 13-5.

Salisbury built on its lead in the second half as they outscored Goucher 10-4 en route to the 14-goal win.

Junior Sue Ackermann totaled a game-high seven points on one goal and six assists to give her a conference best 89 points (37 goals, 52 assists).

Senior Natalie Degele continued her hot play has she found the back of the net twice and added three assists.

Goucher’s Kate Knitter had a team-high four goals while goalie Janna Kaufman made 11 saves in the loss.

Freshman Natalie Pappas (11-1) made six saves in the first half and sophomore Sonja Stuart stop three shots in the second half for the Gulls.

The four-time defending CAC champions and top seed in this year’s tournament return to the field on Sunday, April 22 as they host eighth-seeded Marymount (Va.) in the first-round of the CAC tournament at 1 pm. The Sea Gulls blanked the Saints, 22-0, earlier this year.
